Vintage plaid waist apron – Hand-stitched – Sizes 36 to 44 – Years 1935-1955
A superb vintage, hand-sewn apron, crafted from small black and white checkered cotton. Very full and long, it offers lovely movement once tied at the waist and can be worn today as both a functional apron or as a layering piece over a dress.
Originally, the apron also features a small bib with ties to go around the neck. This has been intentionally hidden in some photos to show you a more modern way to style the piece, but it is present and is an integral part of the apron.

👗 To help you visualize, I am 1.72m tall and usually wear a size 38 (FR). In the photos, the apron is presented in two ways: in its original configuration with its small bib, and then simply tied at the waist.
📏 Since vintage clothing has different proportions than modern garments, I recommend comparing the listed measurements with those of a similar piece you already own.
Note
This vintage piece bears the traces of its history. A small hole at the bottom of the apron has been repaired, and a few small signs of age remain visible. These details have been photographed and do not prevent the piece from being worn.
Care instructions
- Hand wash
- Air dry
- Gentle ironing
A word from Ginette
This is exactly the type of piece I love to repurpose. I find its little bib adorable for preserving its entire history, but I have a soft spot for the version simply tied at the waist: its fullness almost gives it the look of a long checkered skirt. A lovely way to keep a piece that has already spanned several decades alive today.
